What I Learned This Weekend: Integrative Medicine, Hard Lessons, and Some Very Cool Gadgets

Dear Patients, Mold Warriors, and Fellow Canaries,

I just got back from my annual long weekend at the Integrative Medicine Forum, and let's just say... this one taught me more than just medicine. It taught me about life, resilience, and yes, how to laugh while sliding into a literal lake of water inside my AirBNB.

I want to share the highlights (and the hard lessons), because as always, I’m walking this journey right beside you. Every single day.

1. Be Prepared for Anything — Even Chaos

Traveling during Mercury Retrograde? Rookie mistake. My flights were delayed or canceled five times between Wednesday and Thursday. But this conference is my one chance a year to see my tribe — the heart-centered healers, the innovators, and the creators of tomorrow's medicine.

I could have stayed home and waited for the recordings, but something told me to push through. Well, the universe gave me every obstacle possible — and I’m glad I pushed through anyway. Lesson learned: you can never plan for everything, but you can choose to persevere.

2. Chlorella: Not All Advice Is Canary-Friendly

This one’s personal. Dr. Klinghardt (who I deeply respect) said anyone can tolerate at least 10 chlorella a day. Well, as a canary myself, I thought I’d ease in gently: 2 tablets, three times that day.

Big mistake.

Within hours, I felt like I was being cut open with no anesthesia. My symptoms usually hit my nervous system — brain fog, headaches — not my gut. But this time? Full GI revolt. Two hours of violent bodily rebellion later, I crawled back to catch the final lectures of the day.

Lesson for my sensitive patients: only take dosing advice from someone who deeply understands canaries. Even well-meaning experts can misjudge our unique responses.

3. Energy Follows Focus

When things spiral, it’s easy to drown in negativity. But I learned: redirect your energy. Puppies. Rainbows. Orgasms (yes, really). Anything to shift your focus.

Because after my amazing dinner with my soul sister at True Food, where we laughed about water leaks… I came home to my AirBNB and stepped into an actual LAKE inside the house. Waterfall from the ceiling, buckets needed everywhere.

What could I do? I laughed. Hard. And you know what? That shift in energy carried me through.

4. I Need an HBOT Machine — And Now We Have One!

I’ve known hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is powerful, but experiencing my first "dive" at the conference sealed the deal. I ordered a machine for the clinic, and it will be arriving soon!

Get ready: this is going to be a game-changer for detoxification, inflammation, and overall healing.

5. Long Haul COVID: Hope Is Here

So much fresh research is out, and I’m beyond excited. New protocols are coming to the clinic as early as next week (after I test them myself, of course). If you’re still struggling with long haul symptoms, book your consult — relief is in sight.

6. Plasmapheresis: The Future Is Now

Plasmapheresis is cutting-edge, and while it’s still rare in the U.S., it’s common in Europe. I’m hopeful we’ll join an FDA safety study soon so we can bring this powerful therapy to you at a more affordable price point. But our new gadget arrives in the next few weeks! And yes, I am jumping up and down and yelling from the top of my lungs!

This could be a real breakthrough for chronic inflammation and autoimmune conditions.

7. Move That Lymph!

Chronic inflammation? Mold? Long haul anything? Moving your lymph is critical. I found a fantastic new gadget that feels like a warm hug while helping drain toxins from your body. Of course, I bought it — expect to see it at the clinic this week!

8. Our Food Is Fighting Against Us

Sad but true: our food supply is making us sick. Gio and I are jumping back on the carnivore train tomorrow — no grains, no veggies, just whole, clean animal protein. We’re aiming to crush inflammation and maybe even help my lipedema tissue shrink.

If that feels too extreme, just start with whole foods. Small changes matter.

9. Foot Detox Baths: They're Back!

Years ago, I loved my foot detox machine — until I heard it was just salt oxidation. But Dr. Klinghardt (my detox hero) swears by a particular UK-made model. So, I bought it!

Expect a relaxing foot soak alongside your IV or EBOO. Bonus: mobilizing heavy metals is a critical step in reducing total body inflammation. Heavy metals — like mercury, lead, arsenic — are cellular saboteurs. They block enzymes, damage mitochondria, and fuel chronic diseases. Detoxing them lightens your toxic load, giving your body room to heal.

10. My Colleagues Are Heart-Centered Healers

Every time I meet these brilliant doctors, I’m reminded: this is what medicine should be. Sharing protocols, patient wins, and creative therapies keeps us sharp and inspired. I'm proud to be part of this tribe.

11. Healing Happens Everywhere

I can never turn off being a healer. On my flight home, I found myself seated next to a young stroke survivor and his wife. By the end of the flight, I had shared insights and connected them with two of my trusted colleagues to help them dig deeper into the root causes of his strokes.

Because healing doesn't just happen in the office. It happens everywhere.
