A Warrior’s Journey: The Strength of a Mother and the Fight to Heal
"I Know This Is Not All in My Head – Why Won’t Anyone Help Me?"
The words hung in the air, heavy with frustration and desperation: “I know this is not all in my head — why won’t anyone help me?” These were the first words my new warrior said as tears flowed, emotions she’d held back for far too long now spilling out. Her story unraveled in layers, each one revealing the toll her unresolved thyroid condition had taken on her life.
For years, she’d been battling an invisible enemy. She hadn’t felt like herself for as long as she could remember, yet every attempt to seek answers ended in disappointment. Doctors dismissed her concerns, waving off her abnormal thyroid lab results as insignificant. Even endocrinology, a specialty she’d waited over a year to see, failed to act with urgency. But she knew. She knew her body better than anyone else, and she knew something was deeply wrong.
When she walked into my office for the first time, something shifted. She felt heard. For the first time, someone validated her instincts and her pain. Her relief was palpable, but so was her determination. Together, we were about to embark on a journey—one she knew wouldn’t bring overnight relief, but one that finally offered hope.
The Start of a Journey
With her local bloodwork completed and a urine test mailed off for further analysis, she anxiously awaited our second visit. This moment held immense promise: the beginning of a plan tailored specifically to her. Even without all the test results in, I knew we couldn’t wait to act. She needed relief now. We started treatment immediately.
As part of her plan, we introduced a mold binder—a crucial step in addressing her environment’s hidden toxins. But healing journeys aren’t always straightforward. Sometimes, the process of detoxing can stir up what’s known as an intensification reaction, and that’s exactly what happened.
Suddenly, she found herself facing serious tachycardia and unsettling cardiac changes. The ER visit that followed brought no resolution. Once again, she heard the same dismissive refrain: “There’s nothing we can do.” The defeat and anxiety that followed were overwhelming. She felt like she was spiraling, her mind and body locked in a relentless battle. Despite knowing she needed to stop obsessively researching mold symptoms and side effects, she couldn’t stop. Her Type-A personality—her constant drive to find answers—only amplified her fear of the worst.
Breaking Through the Chaos
Conventional medicine had failed her again, unable to grasp the complexities of chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS). But I understood her body was fighting a war on two fronts: battling the toxins wreaking havoc from within and coping with the emotional strain of feeling unheard and helpless. I wished I could’ve plucked her straight from the ER and into my IV chair. With just one treatment of IV phosphatidylcholine, we could begin repairing the damage mycotoxins had inflicted while supporting her body as it detoxed.
This young mother is a fighter, a warrior in every sense of the word. Her journey isn’t easy, and there will be more battles ahead. But her story is far from over. She’s not giving up, and neither am I.
Stay tuned for the next chapter in her healing journey. There’s so much more to come as we unravel the mysteries of her body and rebuild her health—one step at a time.
