Best Laid Plans…

I met with a beautiful new warrior yesterday. She has been researching mold literate doctors for years and had finally decided to make an appointment with me last April. She is a true warrior - she has been battling through the illness by herself while still managing to run a business with her hubby AND raise 4 young warriors. She thought she could slug through the brain fog, the fatigue, the weight loss, the constant diarrhea, the unexplained fevers, and the inability to get out of bed…until she landed in the hospital for the fourth time and got nothing but more questions on discharge. Anorexic ketoacidosis? Is that really a thing? My answer - NOPE. Her hubby gave her a bottom line - you need to see Dr. Lyday and get on your path to healing. For yourself. For our kids. For our future. So she kept her appointment. She chose to partner with me to heal and I am grateful.

Her story is probably familiar to some of you. She left home at 18 and saved up for her first home. She and her hubby bought a fixer upper and were so proud to be able to do this on their own right out of school. It needed a lot of work but what home doesn’t, right? Most homes have black mold growing on the walls, right? And a dirt basement floor? And then she started to notice illness creeping in and never really going away. In fact in looking back on it she was sick the whole time she lived there. Bronchitis. Pneumonia. Never having any ambition. They decided to start their family and had two kids back to back. But then things changed and she could not carry the next baby. And it was probably better because she never seemed to have any energy. Her oldest son started missing his developmental milestones. They said it was autism. After fixing up their starter home, they found their next chapter. And our warrior improved greatly. She started to noticing her brain function coming back online. Her periods normalized. She had more ambition than she had in years. And her son turned a corner. Even though he was still “quirky” his head banging and obsessive behaviors seemed to fade away like a bad memory. Was that a coincidence? Or was leaving the mold the answer? We all know MY ANSWER TO THAT! They decided that it was time to add to their happy family so they starting trying for more children. After having another miscarriage she was able to carry another baby to term easily. She felt great during that pregnancy and had an easy home birth. In fact her daughter arrived BEFORE the midwife.

Plot twist - with a move to the country for a business decision, they moved into a home that appeared to be TURN KEY. Everything looked beautifully redone - the walls were all freshly painted (warning sign), the basement had just been redone (double warning sign) - what could possibly go wrong? Well just about everything. This is when the wheels really fell off the bus. Her final pregnancy was completely different - she started having joint pain and muscle laxity. She thought it was the pregnancy but then it never really went away. Her right hip flared and never stopped flaring. The anxiety - those racing thoughts that never seem to go away - came back with a vengence. And she knew. They had moved into a mold melting pot. Again! After testing the home they moved out immediately - into a rental with EVEN MORE MOLD.

I know - right now you are thinking this is a horror story. But it isn’t. It is what we deal with every day with defective mold processing genes that lead us into homes with mold and because of mold’s ability to get under our skin, we get trapped and mold actually tells our body that we should stay. It turns us into zombies and we cannot get out of the places that are trying to kill us. Mold literally tries to keep us in places that are unsafe so it can break us down and use us as fuel.

After 12 plus hospital stays, countless ER visits and still not being able to go back to life as she knew it, I finally get a chance to help her get back to being the mom and partner she has always wanted to be. I cannot wait to share with you her story of overcoming mold illness.
