Superheros Don’t Always Wear Capes…
🌟 My Favorite New Superhero of the Day 🌟
Today I met one of the strongest little warriors I’ve seen in a long time.
He’s nine years old and already learning a lesson that many adults struggle with — that sometimes the hardest battles aren’t the ones you can see.
This young superhero has been dealing with body bullies at school while also quietly fighting something much bigger inside his body. Despite doing the things everyone tells kids to do — eating well, staying active, trying his best — his body has been holding on to extra “fluff” that just wouldn’t budge.
And unfortunately, when that happens, the world often jumps to simple answers.
“Eat less.”
“Move more.”
But bodies are far more complex than that.
When we dug deeper, we found clues pointing toward autoimmune thyroid disease, possible Lyme exposure, mold toxicity, and nutrient deficiencies — all things that can make a child feel exhausted, foggy, and frustrated in their own body.
When the immune system is fighting hidden battles, the body isn’t thinking about letting go of extra weight. It’s thinking about survival.
I see this pattern often.
And I understand it personally.
As a child, I struggled with undiagnosed thyroid issues myself. I remember doing the diets. I remember trying harder than everyone else. And I remember hearing comments about the “extra fluff” that no diet seemed to fix.
So when this little guy sat in front of me today, I saw more than labs and symptoms.
I saw a warrior at the beginning of his healing story.
And the best part?
His mom is a functional medicine practitioner who has walked her own difficult health journey after years of missed thyroid disease and mold exposure. She knows what it feels like when answers take too long.
She’s not going to let her son walk that road alone.
Together we’re starting the work of calming his immune system, supporting his thyroid, addressing mold exposure, and investigating possible infections that may have triggered his autoimmune response.
As his body heals, the rest will follow.
And someday those bullies may realize something important:
Extra fluff can change.
But a black heart rarely does.
This little superhero?
He’s going to shine.
And I can’t wait to watch him grow stronger.
