The Farmer Who Waited…
The Farmer Who Waited for Me
One of the coolest parts of what I do happened this week.
A gentleman walked into my office who I hadn't seen in years.
Back when we first met, I wasn't "the mold doctor."
I wasn't speaking on stages.
I wasn't doing podcasts.
I wasn't building healing centers.
I was just a regular family practice doctor trying to help people feel better.
And somehow, all these years later, he remembered.
His wife had been encouraging him to see a functional medicine provider.
In fact, she already sees one.
A very good one.
One of my competitors.
When his blood sugar started climbing and concerns about diabetes entered the picture, she suggested he make an appointment.
Reasonable advice.
But his response surprised me.
He said:
"I'll only see Lyday."
Not because I had all the answers.
Not because I promised a miracle.
But because years ago, when I was simply his family doctor, I earned something that matters more than any lab result.
His trust.
As I sat across from him, I couldn't help but smile.
Because this wasn't really a story about diabetes.
It wasn't even a story about Multiple Sclerosis.
It was a story about a man choosing himself.
For the first time in a long time.
The Farm Doesn't Run Itself
This warrior has lived with MS since 2004.
Twenty-two years.
Think about that.
For more than two decades, he has carried a diagnosis that causes many people to live in fear of what the future may hold.
And yet?
He kept going.
He built a life.
He raised a family.
He worked.
He farmed.
He showed up.
Day after day.
Year after year.
His MS has been remarkably stable.
In fact, he stopped his medications years ago because the side effects were worse than the disease itself.
Recently he underwent his first MRI in over a decade.
Still stable.
Still moving forward.
Still doing the work.
But now another challenge has appeared.
Blood sugar.
Prediabetes.
Possibly diabetes.
The kind of diagnosis that sneaks up on hardworking people.
Especially farmers.
Especially dads.
Especially people who spend their entire lives taking care of everyone else first.
The Wake-Up Call
What struck me most wasn't his lab work.
It was his why.
He's not trying to get healthier because somebody scared him.
He's not chasing a number.
He's not trying to fit into a different pair of jeans.
He's looking ahead.
At his family.
At his boys.
At the future of the farm.
One son is becoming an electrician.
The other is interested in taking over the farm.
His father is 77 and trying to step back.
A transition is happening.
A passing of the torch.
And somewhere deep inside, this farmer realized something.
If he wants to be part of that future...
He has to invest in himself.
Not someday.
Now.
The Strongest Thing a Man Can Do
Many people think strength is pushing through.
Ignoring symptoms.
Working harder.
Toughing it out.
Farmers are especially good at this.
But the strongest thing this man did wasn't showing up to work.
It was showing up to his appointment.
It was admitting:
"I want better."
"I want more energy."
"I want my brain back."
"I want to be here for my family."
That takes courage.
Because healing requires something many hardworking people struggle with.
Receiving.
Receiving help.
Receiving guidance.
Receiving support.
The Legacy Question
At some point every man has to answer a question.
What am I building?
Not just financially.
Not just professionally.
Physically.
Emotionally.
Spiritually.
What kind of future am I creating?
This farmer has spent years building something extraordinary.
A family.
A business.
A legacy.
Now it's time to make sure his health can keep up with the life he's worked so hard to create.
Because what good is building a farm if your body isn't healthy enough to enjoy it?
What good is creating a legacy if you're too exhausted to live it?
The Beginning of a New Chapter
His story is just beginning.
We're investigating blood sugar.
Looking deeper into inflammation.
Exploring environmental contributors.
Asking questions that conventional medicine rarely asks.
And most importantly...
We're helping him choose himself.
Because that's where every healing journey begins.
Not with a supplement.
Not with a medication.
Not with a protocol.
With a decision.
A decision that says:
"My future matters."
"My family matters."
"My health matters."
And for this farmer?
I have a feeling that decision is going to change everything.
